Boca de Tomatlán
Project: A Remote Family's Adventure in Integration and Community
Project Overview
The Challenge:
To fully immerse ourselves in the local culture of Boca de Tomatlán, a quaint village in Mexico, for 30 days, fostering community ties and embracing the lifestyle of remote working.
The Process:
We journeyed deep into Mexico, quickly integrating into village life. Our experience was marked by joining local traditions, supporting the community, and exploring the lush environment while maintaining our professional responsibilities.

Journeying Together;
As we traveled, each bus ride was an opportunity to learn. Ender acted as the Master of Coins this trip, making sure our conversions were correct and that we gave and received correct amounts each fair!
A Team's Triumph;
Daysin joined the local futbol team and successfully ran an online fundraiser to buy the whole team's uniforms.

The Balcony View;
Our temporary home's balcony offered not just a view but a gateway to the lush landscapes and vibrant life of Boca de Tomatlán. I built myself a fishing pole and caught a red snapper!
Riverside Reflections;
By the river, our children learned to embrace nature. It offered a place to play, hunt, and wash laundry (for the locals!).

Cultural Immersion and Community Engagement
Local Integration:
The heart of our journey was joining the local community. My son became part of the village by joining the futbol team, which led us to launch a successful fundraiser for team jerseys, enhancing our bond with the locals.
Everyday Adventures:
We navigated our new world by foot and bus, learning Spanish and connecting with nature. Our daily routine included hikes through the jungle and snorkeling along the coast, deepening our appreciation for the region's natural beauty.
Professional and Personal Connections:
A highlight of the trip was meeting a long-time remote coworker and project manager in person. This encounter exemplified the power of remote work to create meaningful relationships across distances.

Cross-Cultural Connections;
In a local café, my son bridged worlds over a game of chess, proving that play is a universal language, uniting us all.
Meeting of Remote Coworkers;
A chance to connect outside the screen, strengthening professional bonds in the most personal way amidst the backdrop of our adventure.

Ocean's Bounty;
Marlin are a primary source of income for many families in the area, locally caught and grown food was our diet for a full month.
The Heart of Boca;
Boca de Tomatlán captivated us with its charm, from the serene beaches to the bustling docks, a perfect blend of tranquility and community.

The Outcome
Our stay in Boca de Tomatlán transcended a mere getaway; it was a comprehensive cultural dive, a successful exercise in remote living, and a testament to the power of community. The lessons learned and the relationships forged will resonate with us as we continue to navigate the world as a remote family, ready for the next adventure.
